Country Boy Hunting Tip

Slug it out with a Whitetail

Kevin Lee McIver hunting in Alabama.

Here is a tactic you can use when squirrel hunting early in the season and the thick vegetation persists.

Select about five small rocks and carry them with you. When you finally get that old squirrel in your sights and it runs around the other side of the tree, throw a stone past it to the other side to make some noise and move the vegetation.

It will often spook that critter and it will scurry back to your side of the tree giving you a shot. A simple tactic often overlooked, but one you should keep in your hunting toolkit.

We love squirrel hunting at SqU and we also love to eat them. It would be great if you all could join us at 2013 World champion squirrel cook off. We bring people from across the country together with the enjoyment that comes from hunting and cooking squirrels. We still have openings for this years event so look us up at squirrelcookoff.com and enter. Who knows you might be the next world champion
